Carnival homemade kids costumes, Clara carrot (part III)
For our final homemade Carnival costumes, an actual handmade production, inspired by Walt Disney’s almost forgotten character: Clara carrot.
What you need to make it: orange and green felt, two skeins of yarn of the same colours, a thick circlet, stuffing material, wire and glue. You can complete the look with an orange turtleneck, and black or brown tights and shoes for the roots.
First of all, draw and cut the paper models for the carrot and its leaves using an old newspaper and have your kid try them before you cut the felt.

Il necessario: feltro verde ed arancione, due matassine di filo degli stessi colori, un cerchietto a fascia larga, materiale per l’imbottitura, filo di ferro e colla. Se volete, potete completare il look con una dolcevita arancione, e calze e scarpe nere o marroni per le radici.
Prima di tutto, disegnate e tagliate i carta modelli per la carota e le sue foglie utilizzando un vecchio giornale, avendo cura di provarli al vostro bambino prima di tagliare il feltro.
Fold the orange felt into four, draw and cut the shape of the carrot body. Eventually, cut a hole for the head in the centre and stitch around the shape starting at the bottom.
Piegate il feltro arancione in quattro, disegnate e tagliate la forma del corpo della carota. Alla fine, realizzate un foro per la testa al centro e cucite la forma a partire dalle estremità inferiori.
Do the same thing with two layers of stuffing material and fill the stitched orange felt shape with them.
Fate la stessa cosa con due strati di imbottitura e utilizzatele per riempire la forma arancio che avete appena cucito.
At the end, stitch them to completely close the carrot. We suggest to use blanket stitch, which is relatively easy and quick as well as agreeable to see.
Alla fine, chiudete completamente la carota con una cucitura. Consigliamo di farlo usando il punto festone, che è relativamente facile e veloce, ed allo stesso tempo piacevole da vedere.
Fold the green in felt into six and cut the shape for the leaves collar. For a good result on this part it’s very important to use scissors specific for cutting tissue.
Piegate il feltro verde in sei e tagliare la forma del colletto di foglie. Per questa parte è molto importante, al fine di garantire un buon risultato, usare delle forbici specifiche per il tessuto.
Open the collar shape and embroider all the leaves making running stitches. Create a turtleneck collar, fill it in with some of the stuffing material, and stitch it to the collar shape with leaves.
Aprite il collare e ricamate tutte le foglie con un punto indietro semplice. Create un collettino a dolcevita, riempitelo con dell’imbottitura e cucitelo alla forma del collare con le foglie.
Now move to the headband. Out of the green felt, cut two leaves shapes and embroider them on all their length.
Ora passate al copricapo. Usando il feltro verde, tagliare due lunghe foglie e ricamatele in tutta la loro lunghezza.
Using the wire create a structure with two horns and cover them with green felt. Lastly, secure the leaves to the two horns and fully cover the circlet with a strip of green felt closed with blanket stitch.
Utilizzando il filo di ferro, create una struttura con due corna e copritela con il feltro verde. Infine, fissate le foglie sulle corna e coprite completamente il cerchietto con una striscia di feltro verde rifinita con il punto festone.
And here is the result: an adorable Clara carrot costume for little girls! How do you like it?
