Milan, the skycraper city

Another post belonging to our series “we nearly made it” (see #nearlymadeit). Back to Milan after our holidays in the mountains, we enjoyed some extraordinary sunny and warm weekends. So, during one of them we went to take a walk in the new skyscraper area in the Porta Nuova district next to the Garibaldi station, and we stop to play in the amazing Gae Aulenti square.
The square, which is also referred to as “the square of the future”, is a stylish and beautiful space characterized by a vast pool cascading down two floors and reflecting the surrounding buildings. It’s a place with a peculiar atmosphere where the babies can safely and freely play in a metropolitan context, but a way from the traffic of the city and the parents can rest on the circle of seating surrounding it.

Tornate a Milano dopo le vacanze in montagna, abbiamo la fortuna di goderci un paio di straordinari week-end di sole e caldo. Così, durante uno di questi siamo andate a fare una passeggiata nella nuova e moderna zona del quartiere di Porta Nuova, vicino alla stazione Garibaldi, e siamo rimaste a giocare nella meravigliosa piazza Gae Aulenti.
La piazza, alla quale ci si è riferiti anche come “la piazza del futuro”, è uno spazio elegante e sofisticato caratterizzato da un’ampia fontana che si articola orizzontalmente su due piani e che riflette gli edifici circostanti. E’ un luogo dall’atmosfera particolare, dove i bambini possono tranquillamente e giocare in libertà, in un contesto metropolitano, ma lontano dal traffico della città e dove i genitori possono riposare sulle strutture a sedere circolari che la circondano.
