Halloween is becoming more and more popular in Europe. Although we are not traditionally used to celebrate this Christian event dressing up, we got fascinated (and eventually seduced) by this habit coming from the States.
For the occasion, this year we’ve prepared a series of last minute DIY Halloween kids costumes, inspired by the presence of a human character and his/her animal companion. If you follow us on socials, you already know that the first couple is “the witch and the cat”… the cat is obviously black!
So, here’s the tutorial for the DIY cat costume. Soon on the blog the final result together with the adorable witch.
A final note: Since we’ve been cutting, stitching and taking pics mainly at night, the quality is not up to the usual standard…we hope you will like them anyway.

Halloween sta diventando sempre più popolare in Europa. Nonostante noi non siamo, per tradizione, abituati a celebrare questo evento di origine cristiana travestendoci, ci siamo lasciati affascinare (ed eventualmente sedurre) da questa usanza proveniente dagli Stati Uniti.
Per l’occasione, quest’anno abbiamo preparato dei costumi di Halloween per bambini “fai da te”, ispirati dalla presenza di un personaggio umano e di un compagno animale. Se ci seguite sui social, sapete già che la prima coppia è “la strega e il gatto” … ovviamente il gatto è nero!
Ecco quindi il tutorial per la preparazione del costume da gatto. Presto sul blog il risultato finale con l’adorabile strega.
Una nota finale: Dal momento che abbiamo tagliato, cucito e fatto foto principalmente di notte, la qualità non è al solito standard…ci auguriamo che vi piaceranno comunque.

Halloween kids costumes black cat materials needed

Materials needed: furry stuff, wire hanger, headband with cat ears, black turtle neck and leggings – we have bought ours from H&M.
Occorrente: stoffa simil pelliccia, appendiabiti in fil di ferro, cerchietto con orecchiette da gatto, dolcevita e leggings neri – noi li abbiamo comprati da H&M

Step 1: Make the trousers. Measure your kids calf and cut the furry feather accordingly so to make the leg warmers. Hint: to minimise fur fraying, cut the fur on the reverse with a cutter rather than scissors.
Passo 1: Realizzate i calzoni. Prendete le misure dei polpacci del vostro bimbo e tagliare la pelliccia per fare gli scaldamuscoli. Suggerimento: per ridurre al minimo lo sfilacciamento della pelliccia, tagliatela sul retro con un taglierino, piuttosto che con le forbici.

Step 2: Make the trousers. Hand stitch the fur into circles on the leggings.
Passo 2: Realizzate i calzoni. Cucite la pelliccia a mano attorno alle gambe dei leggings.

Step 3: Make the blouse. Measure your kid wrists, then cut and stitch the furry feather similarly to what it has been done for the trousers.
Passo 3: Realizzate la maglia. Misurate i polsi del vostro bimbo, quindi tagliare e cucite la pelliccia analogamente a quanto fatto per i pantaloni.

Step 4: Make the tail. Get the wire hanger, cut off one end and bend it to your liking. Cut a long piece of fur and stitch it to make a fur tube. Insert the tail-shaped wire hanger in it and eventually seal it.
Passo 4: Realizzare la coda. Prendete l’appendiabiti in ferro, tagliatene le estremità e piegatelo a proprio piacimento. Tagliate un lungo pezzo di tessuto e cucitelo realizzando tubo di pelliccia. Inseritevi il filo di ferro a forma di coda ed alla fine sigillatelo con dei punti.

Materials needed: black elastic band, buttons, black stockings and black shoes. We’ve bought all the clothes at H&M – also bought ours from H&M.
Occorrente: fascia alta elasticizzata, bottoni, calze e scarpe nere – anche queste comprate da H&M.

Step 5: Make the belt and the headband. Measure your kid waist, then cut and stitch the furry feather similarly to what it has been done for the trousers and the blouse. Add two button to buckle it. Hand sew the tail onto back of the belt so it has movement.
Passo 5: Realizzare la cintura e il cerchietto. Misurate la tua vita del vostro bimbo, quindi tagliate e attaccategli la pelliccia, come per i calzoni e la maglia. Aggiungete due bottoni per la chiusura. Cucite a mano la coda sul retro della cinghia per garantire il movimento.

Step 6: Cut two pieces of fur and cover the ears of the headband.
Passo 6: Realizzare la cintura e il cerchietto. Tagliate due pezzi di pelliccia e coprite le orecchiette del cerchietto.
