Halloween kids costumes cricket (part III)
We know, Halloween is over, but since it took us a long time to realize this homemade kids costume, we have decided to share it anyway. After all Halloween is an annual thing, and Carnival will arrive sooner than we think, so you might want take inspiration for those events.
For our series inspired by the presence of a human character and his/her animal companion, here’s the tutorial for a DIY cricket costume. We have created it using a technic very similar to the one used this spring for Clara carrot costume.

Lo sappiamo, Halloween è ormai trascorso, ma visto che abbiamo impiegato parecchio tempo nel confezionare questo costume per bambini fatto in casa, abbiamo deciso di mostrarvelo comunque. Dopo tutto, Halloween si festeggia ogni anno, e Carnevale arriverà prima di quanto pensiamo, per cui potrete utilizzarlo in una di queste occasioni.
Per la nostra serie ispirata alle coppie con un personaggio umano e un compagno animale, ecco il tutorial per un costume da grillo fai da te. Lo abbiamo realizzato utilizzando una tecnica molto simile a quella impiegata questa primavera per la carotina Clara.

Materials needed: stuffing material, two different shades of green felt, a skein of yarn of the darkest colour, a thick circlet and wire.
Occorrente: materiale per l’imbottitura, feltro in due sfumature di verde, una matassina di filo verde scuro, un cerchietto a fascia larga e filo di ferro.
Step 1: Make the bodice. Fold the darker green felt into four, draw and cut the shape of the cricket body. Eventually, cut a hole for the head in the centre.
Passo 1: Realizzate il corpetto. Piegate il feltro verde scuro in quattro, disegnate e tagliate la forma del corpo del grillo. Alla fine, realizzate un foro per la testa al centro.
Step 2: Cut the cental legs. Create two long and narrow triangles and hand stich them.
Passo 2: Tagliate le gambine centrali. Create due triangoli lunghi e stretti e cuciteli a mano.
Step 3: Complete the central legs. Do the same thing with two layers of stuffing material and fill the stitched green felt shapes with them.
Passo 3: Completate le gambine centrali. Fate la stessa cosa con due strati di imbottitura e utilizzatela per riempire le forme verdi che avete appena cucito.
Step 4: Stich the central legs. Stitch the legs to the front side of the bodice.
Passo 4: Attaccate le gambine centrali. Cucite le gambine alla parte frontale del corpetto.
Step 5: Complete the bodice. Do the same thing to create two back legs, althoug their shape should look more like tails. At the end, stitch them to the back side of the bodice and completely close it.
Passo 5: Completate il corpetto.Fate la stessa cosa per ricavare due gambine posteriori, anche se la loro forma deve essere più simile a quella di due codine. Alla fine, attaccatele alla parte posteriore del corpetto e chiudetelo completamente.
Step 6: Make the protective shield.Using both woven felts, cut as many square shapes as you wish. Stitch them together with blanket stitches and then link them to create a collar.
Passo 6: Realizzate la corazza protettiva.Con entrambi i tessuti in feltro, tagliate un numero di forme quadrate a piacere. Unite ciascuna utilizzando il punto festone e cucitele alla guisa di una collana.
Step 7: Complete the costume.Fasten the collar on the back using a button and match it with the bodice. Here's the final result.
Passo 7: Completare il costume.Chiudere la corazza con un bottone sul retro e poggiatela sul corpetto. Ecco il risultato finale.
Step 8: Create the antennas. Get a wire hanger, cut off one end and bend it to your liking. Similarly to what done for the shield, create as many triangular pieces as you wish and plug them in the wire.
Passo 8: Realizzate le antenne. Prendete un appendiabito in ferro, tagliatene le estremità e piegatelo a piacimento. Analogamente a quanto fatto per la corazza, ricavate un numero di triangolini a piacere e inseriteli nel filo di ferro.
Step 9: Complete the head. Using the wire create a structure with two horns and cover them with the light green felt. Secure the antennas to the two horns and fully cover the headband with a strip of dark green felt closed with blanket stitches.
Passo 9: Completare il copricapo.Utilizzando il filo di ferro, create una struttura con due corna e copritela con il feltro verde chiaro. Infine, fissate le antenne alle corna e coprite completamente il cerchietto con una striscia di feltro verde scuro rifinita con il punto festone.
Step 10: Under the costume. You can complete the look with a green turtleneck and a pair of green leggings. Since this season it's almost impossible to find them in stores, we bought them white at H&M and then we dyed them with a green as similar as possible to the light green used for the costume.
Passo 10: Cosa mettere sotto il costume. Potete completare il costume con una dolcevita ed un paio di leggings verdi. Dal momento che in questa stagione é praticamente impossibile trovarli nei negozi, li abbiamo comprati da H&M bianchi, e poi li abbiamo tinti con un verde simile al verde chiaro utilizzato per il costume.
