Visiting the stunning villa Borromeo Visconti Litta for a special afternoon lost in time
If you want to give yourself and your kids a special afternoon lost in time, Villa Borromeo Visconti Litta is the place to go. Located few miles outside Milan, in Lainate, the Villa is surrounded by an enchanted garden where to get lost among wonderful mosaics, artificial caves, beautiful stucco statues and magical water games. Magical water games activated by plumbers, hidden in invisible doorways, to amuse the guests of the Villa. The Nymphaeum, this is the exact name of the building, is an impressive work of hydraulic engineering, built between 1585 and 1589, and consists of rooms fully decorated with mosaics made with white and blacks river stones and pebbles painted in tempera.
We went there in July, on a hot Sunday afternoon, and the girls simply loved it! Anna got herself soaking wet playing with the water games, and after the tour of the Nymphaeum mum had to change her clothes. At first, Alice was scared by the water coming from unexpected locations, but then she started to have fun, and at times she got even annoyed by not being able to control the water games.
This year the villa is open until the 31 of October, so you still have time for visiting it. However, we suggest going there when the weather is still hot, so to let your kids freely play with the water with no fear of catching a cold.
Se volete trascorrere uno speciale pomeriggio perso nel tempo con i vostri bimbi, Villa Borromeo Visconti Litta è il posto dove andare. Situata a pochi chilometri fuori Milano, precisamente a Lainate, la villa è circondata da un giardino incantato dove perdersi tra meravigliosi mosaici, grotte artificiali, splendide statue di stucco e magici giochi d’acqua. Magici giochi d’acqua che vengono attivati da fontanieri nascosti in vani invisibili per divertire gli ospiti della Villa. Il Ninfeo, questo il nome esatto della costruzione, è un impressionante lavoro di ingegneria idraulica, realizzato tra il 1585 e il 1589, e composto da camere completamente decorate con mosaici in pietre di fiume bianche e nere e in ciottoli dipinti a tempera.
Noi ci siamo andate nel mese di luglio, durante un caldo pomeriggio domenicale, e le bimbe ne sono rimaste incantate! Anna si è bagnata così tanto con i giochi d’acqua che dopo il tour del ninfeo la mamma l’ha dovuta cambiare completamente. Alice all’inizio era spaventata dai getti d’acqua provenienti da posti inattesi, ma poi ha iniziato a divertirsi e in alcuni momenti era addirittura indispettita dal non poterli controllare.
Quest’anno la villa rimane aperta fino al 31 ottobre, quindi avete ancora un po’ di tempo per visitarla. Tuttavia vi consigliamo di andarci quando fa ancora caldo, in modo da lasciare che i vostri bimbi giochino liberamente con l’acqua senza paura di prendere freddo.
