DIY Halloween kids costumes crocodile: tutorial on how to make this costume
This year, the second character of our DIY Halloween kids costume series inspired by the presence of a human character and his/her animal companion is a crocodile. In reality, we purchased a crocodile costume three years ago, when Alice was two, and wanted to shoot it at that time. But Alice have always refused to wear it (not clear why) and having tried for a couple of time the costume has eventually become too little. So, we ended up making a new one ourselves.
We have created it using a technic very similar to the one used for the cricket (here) and Clara carrot (here). Per quest’anno, il secondo protagonista della serie di costumi di Halloween “fai da te” ispirata alla presenza di un personaggio umano e del suo compagno di animale, è un coccodrillo. In realtà, avevamo acquistato un costume da coccodrillo ben tre anni fa, quando Alice aveva due e volevo realizzare un post all’epoca. Tuttavia Alice si è sempre rifiutata di indossarlo (non è mai stato chiaro perché) e dopo aver provato per un paio di volte, il costume è diventato piccolo. Quindi quest’anno abbiamo deciso di farne uno noi.
Lo abbiamo creato utilizzando una tecnica molto simile a quella impiegata per il grillo (qui) e la carotina Clara (qui). Presto sul blog il risultato finale insieme a… con chi pensate vada a spasso il coccodrillo? Restate con noi per scoprirlo.

Costume di Halloween per bambini "fai da te" coccodrillo. Seguite il nostro tutorial per realizzare questo costume per bambini.
Materials needed: stuffing material, three different shades of green felt, a skein of yarn of the darkest colour, an old hairband and wire.
Occorrente: materiale per l’imbottitura, feltro in tre differenti sfumature di verde, una matassina di filo verde scuro, un vecchio cerchietto e filo di ferro.
Step 1: Make the bodice. Create a paper pattern with the shape of the crocodile body, then use it to cut the stuffing material. Eventually, cut a hole for the head in the centre.
Passo 1: Realizzate il corpetto. Create un cartamodello con la forma del corpo del coccodrillo e usatelo per tagliare l'imbottitura. Alla fine, realizzate un foro per la testa al centro.
Step 1: Make the bodice. Fold the green felt into four, draw and cut the shape of the crocodile body. Eventually, cut a hole for the head in the centre.
Passo 1: Realizzate il corpetto. Piegate il feltro verde in quattro, disegnate e tagliate la forma del corpo del coccodrillo. Alla fine, realizzate un foro per la testa al centro.
Step 2: Make the crocodile tail ends. Fold the darker green felt into four, so that it will remain thicker, then draw and cut the crocodile tail ends.
Passo 2: Realizzate le punte della coda del coccodrillo. Piegate il feltro verde più scuro in quattro, così che rimanga più rigido, poi disegnate e tagliate le punte della coda del coccodrillo.
Step 3: Make the crocodile tail. Fold the green felt into two, then draw and cut the crocodile tail.
Passo 3: Realizzate la coda del coccodrillo. Piegate il feltro verde in due, poi disegnate e tagliate la coda del coccodrillo.
Step 4: Complete the crocodile tail. Fill the tail with stuffing material and sew it toghether with the tail ends. Then sew it with the crocodile bodice.
Passo 4: Completate la coda del coccodrillo. Riempite la coda con l'imbottitura e cucitela insieme alle punte. Infine cucitela alla parte posteriore del corpo.
Step 5: Complete the bodice with the belly. Create an oval paper pattern, big enough to cover most of the frontal bodice. Then draw and cut accordingly the stuffing material and two layers of the lighter green felt. Stitch the two pieces of felt toghether with blanket stitches and fill them in with the stuffing material.
Passo 5: Completate il corpo con la pancia del coccodrillo. Create un carta modello ovale, abbastanza grande da coprire la maggior parte del corpo del coccodrillo. Poi usatelo per disegnare e tagliare l'imbottitura e due strati di feltro del verde più chiaro. Cucite i due pezzi di feltro con il punto festone e riempiteli con l'imbottitura.
Step 6: Create the crocodile hairband. Create a paper patter for the head. Then draw and cut accordingly the stuffing material and two layers of green felt. Stitch the two pieces of felt toghether with blanket stitches and fill them in with the stuffing material. Cut two round pieces of white and black felt to make the eyes and glue them on the head.
Passo 6: Create il cerchietto da coccodrillo. Create un carta modello per la testa. Poi usatelo per disegnare e tagliare l'imbottitura e due strati di feltro del verde. Cucite i due pezzi di feltro con il punto festone e riempiteli con l'imbottitura. Tagliate due pezzi tondi di feltro bianco e nero per creare gli occhi, quindi attaccateli alla testa.
