Illudia fall winter 2017 pied-de-poule dress
Timeless and undisputed symbol of elegance, pied-de-poule pattern has been one of the hottest trends this winter season and we love it for kids as much as we do for adults!
Originated in Scotland in the 1800s, this pattern was initially used as an outer garment by shepherds. So, no wonder that when it was first created it was referred to as shepherd’s check! The term “pied-de-poule” comes from French, and it was used because the pattern resembles chicken feet. In English it’s called houndstooth or puppy’s tooth if it’s small.
The pattern has been brought to celebrity during the 1930s, when it was adopted by the upper class as a symbol of wealth, and since then it has been used by the most famous Maison in their collections. It ‘s a duotone textile pattern characterized by broken checks often in black and white, although other colours are used – for instance, pink and white are common for kids’ clothes.

Intramontabile e indiscusso simbolo di eleganza, il pied de poule è stato uno dei motivi che hanno contrassegnato questa stagione invernale, e a noi piace moltissimo, sia per piccoli che per grandi!
Nato in Scozia nel 1800, questo motivo veniva originariamente indossato dai pastori come capo da esterno. Non c’è quindi da stupirsi che all’inizio venisse chiamato “shepherd’s check”! Il termine “pied-de-poule” viene dal francese, e lo si deve al fatto che i suoi riquadri ricordano le impronte lasciate dalla zampa della gallina. In inglese, invece è chiamato houndstooth or puppy’s tooth (dente da cucciolo) se è piccolo.
Il pied-de-poule divenne celebre negli anni ’30, quando fu adottato dalle classi benestanti come simbolo di ricchezza, e da allora è stato utilizzato dalle maison più famose nelle loro collezioni. Si tratta di un tessuto a due tonalità caratterizzato da quadri spezzati, generalmente in bianco e nero, ma può presentarsi anche in altri colori – ad esempio, il rosa e il bianco sono comuni nella moda bimbo.
