Velvet has always been associated to royalty and nobility for its softness, for its appearance and for the high cost of production… and by looking at the pictures below we can easily see all the reasons why.
Commonly believed to have originated from Eastern culture, this precious fabric was entered trade with Europe along the Silk Road. Italy was the first European country to create a velvet industry for itself and soon became the leading velvet producer able to supply the material to all of Europe.
Nowadays, velvet has been popping up quite frequently in many different collections for both adults and children, and many designers have been giving their classic or innovative takes on the textile. Velvet in strong colours such as bottle green, navy or burgundy will always be a staple.

Il velluto è sempre stato associato alla regalità e alla nobiltà per la sua morbidezza, per il suo aspetto e per l’alto costo di produzione… e guardando le foto qui sotto possiamo facilmente capirne tutte le ragioni.
E’ credenza comune che il prezioso tessuto abbia avuto origine nella cultura orientale e che sia stato portato in Europa per essere scambiato con altre merci attraverso la via della seta. L’Italia fu il primo paese europeo a creare un’industria per la produzione di velluto locale e divenne presto il principale produttore di questo tessuto, tanto da provvedere al fabbisogno di tutto il continente.
Recentemente, il velluto è apparso spesso in molte collezioni, sia per adulti che per bambini, e numerosi designer hanno impresso il proprio stile, classico o innovativo, su questo materiale. Inoltre, il velluto, in colori forti come il verde bottiglia, il blu scuro o il bordeaux rappresenta tutt’ora un punto di riferimento.
